Love Your Neighbor

Real faith works.

James 1:26-27

26If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. 27Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

James 2:1

1My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.

Jude 1:3

3Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.

Acts 2:21-24

21And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ 22“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.

1 Timothy 1:15

15The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

John 3:16

16“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

James 1:1

1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes in the Dispersion: Greetings.

James 2:1

1My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.

Psalms 24:7-8

7Lift up your heads, O gates!

And be lifted up, O ancient doors,

that the King of glory may come in.

8Who is this King of glory?

The LORD, strong and mighty,

the LORD, mighty in battle!

James 2:1

1My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.

“My brothers, don’t hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of Glory, by showing favoritism.”

Luke 14:7, 8, 10, 12

7Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the places of honor, saying to them,

8“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor…

10But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’…

12…“When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid.

Matthew 23:6

6and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues

The church does not adopt the ways of the culture.
The church lifts up the cross of Jesus.
The cross determines the culture of the church.

James 2:2

2For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in,

James 2:2-4

2For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, 3and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” 4have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

James 2:5-7

5Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? 6But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? 7Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called?

1 Corinthians 1:26-28

26For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,

Matthew 5:3

3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

2 Corinthians 8:9

9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

James 2:5

5Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?

James 2:8

8If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.

Luke 10:25-29

25And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” 29But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Luke 10:30-36

30Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”

Luke 10:37

37He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

Luke 10:33

33But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.

Luke 10:34

34He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him.

Luke 10:35

35And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’

Luke 10:37

37He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

Real faith produces real love.

James 2:8-9

8If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

James 2:10-11

10For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. 11For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

James 2:12-13

12So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. 13For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Real faith produces real love.
