New Identity. New Way of Living.

Robby Pollard, Lead Pastor

Colossians 1:4-5

4faith in Christ Jesus…hope laid up for you in heaven.

Colossians 1:13-14

13kingdom of his beloved Son, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:15-17

15He is the image of the invisible God…firstborn of all creation…all things were created through him and for him…in him all things hold together.

Colossians 1:27

27Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Colossians 2:13-14

13And you, who were dead in your trespasses…God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

Colossians 2:9-10

9For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10and you have been filled in him…

Jesus.

Your new identity demands a new way of living.

Kill what is dead. (Col. 3:5)
Put off what has been put off. (Col. 3:8-9)
Renew what is new. (Col. 3:9-10)

Christian living always flows from Christian identity.

Colossians 3:11

11Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.

Colossians 3:11

11Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.

Christ is all.

Colossians 3:12-17

12Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Your new identity demands a new way of living.

Who you are shapes how you live.

Christ gives us a new look. (Col. 3:12-14)
Colossians 3:12

12Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,

Colossians 3:5, 8-9

5Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

8But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices

Colossians 3:12

12Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,

Colossians 3:13

13bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

Colossians 2:13-14

13And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

Forgiveness is an act of grace.
Forgiveness is a choice.
Forgiveness is cancelling the debt.
Forgiveness means absorbing an injustice.

Christ gives us a new community. (Col. 3:15)

Colossians 3:16

Christ gives us a new purpose. (Col. 3:17)

17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
